HuT TriP*

Having the last two weeks off of work has been amazing. I didn't realize that I was going to be taking a blogging break as well but with all the busyness of the holidays it felt nice. But I'm back to blogging and tomorrow I'll be back to work. Thanks for all the cute e-mails wondering where I wondered off to. "Did you get buried in an avalanche?? where did you go??" cute. thanks.
Our hut trip was amazing.
I can say that aside from the marathon it was the toughest thing I've done in a long time. I was so glad to be doing it with friends that I love. The hike up was very intense. Lots of avalanche chutes to cross. It was quite creepy, one by one skiing through the chutes tromping over debris from avalanches that had occurred the previous day. We were all wearing beacons but I'm not too sure they would have been much help if an avalanche would have decided to break as we crossed, they are so powerful.
By the time we made it to the hut we were exhausted but so happy to have made it safely. The skin broke on my ski a few miles up so we had to change our plan and stay at the Markley hut. We wouldn't have made it to Goodwin-greene before the sun went down. There was a group of 4 people that attempted to make it to this (goodwin-greene) hut two nights prior to us and got lost on the hike up, slept in the snow for two nights and stumbled off the mountain with frostbite. eek! We didn't want that to happen to us.We melted snow for water, built big fires, ate yummy meals (thanks v), went exploring during the day, did a little midnight sledding with headlamps and played fun card games all night long. Our second night we all laid on our backs out in the snow (after a good sledding run) and did some serious star gazing. Everything was so beautiful.
The hut was very nice, we slept every night by the fire.
We took this pic as we were leaving. It was such a great adventure and I'm ready to do it agAiN! I have lots of pics to post from the last two weeks, and quite a few from Christmas as well. Hope you had a nice weekend, HapPy NeW YeaR!
